What if your first choice of student accommodation is full?
Yang came from Singapore to study in the Frankston area. He initially applied to MPG Lodge, but there wasn't a room available. Instead of stopping there, he continued his search and found another dedicated student accommodation option at Peninsula Student Living.
Starting the accommodation search from Singapore.
Students moving to Frankston from overseas often need to organise somewhere to live while also preparing for study, travel and settling into a completely new area.
Yang came from Singapore and needed student accommodation while completing his studies in the Frankston area.
His initial accommodation choice was MPG Lodge, a dedicated student accommodation provider in Frankston.
Yang applied for a room, but MPG Lodge was full at the time.
Rather than treating that as the end of his search, Yang investigated other dedicated student accommodation available locally.
MPG Lodge
Yang initially applied to MPG Lodge while searching for dedicated student accommodation in Frankston. There wasn't a room available when he applied, so he continued looking at other local options.
Availability can change your accommodation plan.
Student accommodation has a limited number of rooms, so a particular provider may not have availability when a student needs to move.
That doesn't necessarily mean a student needs to change their study plans or immediately move into a general rental.
Frankston has different accommodation pathways, including university accommodation, dedicated private student accommodation, share houses and individual rooms.
In Yang's case, another dedicated student provider became the solution.
MPG Lodge was full when I applied, so I kept looking at other student accommodation in the area. I found Peninsula Student Living and ended up staying there for my studies.Yang — student from Singapore
Peninsula Student Living became home.
Yang's search eventually led him to Peninsula Student Living, another dedicated student accommodation provider serving students around Frankston and the Peninsula.
A room was available and Yang was able to secure accommodation there.
Unlike a temporary arrangement while waiting for something else, Peninsula Student Living became Yang's accommodation for the course of his studies.
His experience is a useful reminder that students shouldn't necessarily build their entire accommodation search around a single property.
If one dedicated student accommodation provider is full, another local provider may still have a suitable room available.

Apply early
Student accommodation has limited room availability. Starting the search early gives you more time to compare alternatives if your first choice is unavailable.
Compare multiple providers
One property being full doesn't tell you what is available elsewhere. Check multiple suitable accommodation options rather than relying on one application.
Look beyond temporary solutions
Another dedicated student provider may offer the longer-term accommodation you're looking for rather than simply acting as a temporary backup.
